In Sweden, the responsibility for different gene technology activities under the Swedish Environmental Code is shared between several authorities. This website is meant to make it easier for people who use gene technology, or who are just interested in the subject, to find information about the legislation in force and the requirements that applies to various types of activities.
For instance, you can use this site to find out if you need a permit for the activity you want to engage in. Via the left column, you can also find the authority responsible for each field of activity, as well as short presentations of their tasks.
The authorities have jointly produced information about relevant rules and authorities responsible. You can find this information beneath 'Rules and responsibilities' in the top menu. Use the botton 'Who does what' in the top menu to find out what specific area of responsibility the different authorities have. Beneath 'Legislation' are links to EC directives, EC regulations, Swedish acts and ordinances and also regulations issued by the Swedish authorities.
